Pearl Earring Tactile Relief is a tactile 3D model created by Lui Amâncio for researcher Thayna Bueno. Developed as part of a study on symbolic recognition by blind and visually impaired people, the project reinterprets Johannes Vermeer's iconic painting Girl with a Pearl Earring as a fully three-dimensional object.
Rather than producing a simple raised surface, the project involved sculpting a bust that extends beyond the picture plane, allowing users to perceive volume, form, and spatial relationships through touch, creating a richer and more immersive tactile experience.
